BTS of Topanga On set in LA...

Behind the scenes

After a long hiatus from being able to shoot a large-scale campaign, the Wandering Folk team set off for LA, landing ourselves in tinsel town for a big week of shoots, meetings, exploring… and shopping!

The skies were the brightest of blue and the sun was unusually warm for the time of year, LA was buzzing and there was excitement in the air ahead of the Superbowl weekend.

We spent many hours cruising the crazy freeways, exploring the coast and prepping for our week of back-to-back shoots… the first of which was Topanga.

We were lucky enough to find some spare time to adventure to Topanga Canyon where we climbed the winding roads early one morning and Sharnee led us to “Hidden Treasures”, a unique vintage and antique store that was too much to handle pre-coffee, so we ventured across the road to a quirky café/record store/wine bar, this was by far the coolest place we’d had our morning coffee to date.

Then it was back to the vintage store where we played dress ups and added a few items to our vintage collections.

As we headed down hill out of the canyon and the eery calmness of the once known hippie town we joined the hustle of the Pacific Coast Highway and felt inspired for the shoot day ahead.

After lots of prep in our cute Airbnb watching the Superbowl half time entertainment and snacking on our favourite American treats it was shoot day and we couldn’t have been more excited!

We arrived at The Valley Capri, nestled in the heart of The Valley, North Hollywood. Walking inside it’s like taking a trip back in time to LA circa 1979. The home has been entirely restored to a suburban Los Angeles home living its lifetime at the tail end of the 70’s. We were in awe of just how perfectly curated each room was, everything down to the wallpaper, knobs and switch plates have selected to best represent the time period.

The backyard… transports you to a desert oasis with its sparkling pool lined with a 20ft breeze block wall lined with cactus and tropical gardens. Heaven. We had an amazing team on board who got to work and made the shoot as seamless as could be, aside from Kim who decided it would be fun to get some cactus prickles in her hands!

With no time left to cool off in the pool we wrapped and headed for some Mexican and cool drinks to top off what was such an epic day, we have been so excited to share this with you!
